Dog allergic to grass! Any experiences of this?

Our new rescue has been itching the last few days, and has been diagnosed as most likely being allergic to grass. Slight bore really as we live on a small holding in the Peak District and have hundreds of acres of footpaths and fields on our doorstep. We have never had to walk on a road with our other dogs. The vet says we must avoid grass, especially long grass, and that she will need to be on piriton forever.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks everyone. She's doing really well now. To the extent that we do let her on grass a couple of times a day for a mad ten minutes. The piriton and oil of evening primrose in her feed and the wipe down with baby wipes and aloe vera when she's itchy seem to be just enough. The vet wanted to avoid the injection route unless absolutely necessary.

We have a big test at the weekend. We've decided to risk taking her to Burghley horse trials xc day, which will mean walking on grass most of the day. I'm hoping we will get away with it as it's mown grass and we will up the piriton dose for a day or two. Famous last words!
