Protective collar but still reaching incision...

My dog was neutered on Tuesday and has had a protective collar on since however he has reached the incision an hour ago and hasnt left it alone since. I've tried adjusting collar but it hasnt helped. I'm afraid he will do damage before I get to vets in the morning.

Any suggestions??

Hi Bally can you give him a rawhide/treat ball/puzzle feeder or similar to keep him occupied and distracted.
The incision will be scabbing over now and that is itchy.

It's really important that he doesn't pull his stitches out. Can you take him for a walk to distract him?

Have you got a close fitting t-shirt or an old baby vest you could put on him?

Tshirt sounds like the best idea until tomorrow. Sounds like the cone is the wrong size for him, should be longer.

Oh Jesus....I am not able for this!!! The incision looks very red. I have wrapped an old tshirt of my sons around his neck( at the the base of the cone) so with the extra bulk he is no longer able to reach the incision. Think Wings is right the cone could do with being abit longer even though he is really small. Maybe he is ultra bendy!!

It should be ok till morning, shldnt it?? I feel like I did with my first born when he was an infant........

My bastard spaniel could work his way round his cone of shame no matter what we did to prevent him, the vet nurses were fascinated by his cone-avoiding techniques. Yes, they are far more of a worry than kids, bloody dogs (but I love my two to bits).

Just thought I'd update......He has a new larger collar. He got an antibiotic jab and some steroid cream so all sorted (for the moment). He did have a good go at the incision but thankfully all the stitches were still in place.
