Apart from collies, what other breeds lie down and give the bent eye?

DDog3 is a little over a year old. Rescued from a drug dealer trying to sell her for drug money, she is unsurprisingly staffie, most likely crossed with whippet. She has a very fine staffie head (though still unmistakably staffie) but from the neck down is like a heavy set whippet. No sign of collie in her at all, apart from her lying down and eyeing my other dogs up before taking off after them.
Obviously we will never know exactly what she is, but I can't think of any other breed that shows this behaviour, which is exhibited in a daily basis (and both my boys are spaniels so no lying down and bent eyeing there for her to learn from ;))

My lurcher does that

She is grey/whippet/bedlington

Mine does that, no idea what her breed is though! I've seen labs and ridgebacks do it too.

My Toller does this sometimes - but I'd be surprised if she had Toller in the mix!

I know a dalmatian and an Akita who both do that to initiate play, so I don't think it's a breed trait.

Both my Lurchers do that and given she's a Staffs Terrier x Whippet your girl is actually a Lurcher too.

My two are Saluki/Deerhound x Grey/Collie and anyone's guess but probably a lot of Grey and def some terrier (coarse fur) with something else thrown in the mix, but probably not Collie. He's most likely a Lurcher to Lurcher mix-up.

a lurcher is not a breed - more an accident/dual heritage and a type of cross (sighthound with scenthound)

A Lurcher is actually defined as a sighthound crossed with a working breed, so any type of Collie or Terrier would count. Most people take that to mean dogs from the Working Group, so a Scenthound wouldn't fit the definition. Definition as explained by the person that runs Lurcher Link.

Some people may also refer to Longdogs which are sighthound to sighthound crosses, but most people would probably still refer to them as Lurchers.

The OP's Lurcher would be classed by many these days as a Bull Lurcher, due to the cross being Bull Terrier x Sighthound.

Just read that back. Should have said - not that it matters, I just think it's really interesting, especially when you get into why different crosses were put together and what the different mixes were used for.

I have numerous ones with only a bit of tail or part of an ear but I'm guessing you'd like more than that?!
And that's interesting moose, DH would have far preferred to introduce her as a "bull lurcher", his delicate sensibilities recoil at the word "staffie" :o

sorry moose - you are right - they can be a sighthound/scenthound cross but mostly because herding dogs generally have intelligence and a good temperament the most popular crosses are with the Border Collie, the Bearded Collie and the German Shepherd.

lurchers do that looking sideways at you without moving their head which is firmly fixed on their bed/sofa
sadly the white one died aged 10 and I lasted 10 months till I got the second one aged (who is now 11)
such lovely affectionate loyal dogs and although he will be my last 'lurch' I will continue to haunt forums where there are lurcher owners.

These are mine - the white/tan one is a very pointy dog, the other is much more heavy set. Both rescues.

either of mine would have been in hot pursuit at the mere sniff of a cat.

Cat is in charge! Sometimes he sleeps on top of a dog for added warmth and the dogs are too scared to move . TBF, ddog1 is even scared of the chickens
