My Dog was neutered today. He is back home and more or less zonked out. By coincidence a friend had her dog neutered today also. Different vets. She was given a course of anti-b's and a 3 day supply of painkillers. My vet said painkillers were not necessary. My dog had 3 baby teeth removed and was also micro-chipped today.

Generally are painkillers given at this time??

Some vets give painkillers for at home, some give them long lasting stuff while they're there to cover the first day at home...I've never had one give antibiotics for neutering.

Our lab was sent home without pain killers which worried me at the time, but he was pretty much zonked out for 24 hrs. After that the only thing bothering him was the cone of shame and lack of off lead walks. Its a long 10 days...........

Thanks a mill. Her dog has been awake since getting home where mine is still asleep. I believe it will be a very long 10 days.........
