How to help her settle

Hi, we will shortly be joined by a 4yr old Cocker girl. She will be the only dog and I'm worried that she might get lonely as she's always been around other dogs in her current home. Is there anything we can do to help her settle in? Stop her being lonely? Any general tips for how to be a great family for her?

Aww lovely I am a big cocker fan. I think my approach (as it is with my puppy) is to agree the rules and routine and stick to it then she will know what's what soon enough Grin

Stick to a routine, weekdays and weekends being the same is the best (I've found) she'll soon know what to expect and how she fits in Smile

We used to have 2 dogs that played together. Wow, they used to have some great games. When one passed away we got another dog but she doesn't play. Now my terrier is lonely and lacking a pal to play games with. I try to play that part for him. We chase each other round the house, I do play bows, I get on the floor and play tug with him. He knows I am only pretending but it helps him get some kind of dog games into his day which he really misses. Other than that, get 2 dogs? Grin

It took me enough to get DH to get one Lime, I'm not pushing my luck at the mo lol Grin

We're four weeks down the line after adopting a spaniel boy (cocker? sprocker? no-one is sure) and setting rules and boundaries has really helped him settle in. He has his own bed/safe space that he can go to when he wants (he hates the hoover so goes to his crate for example) and on Sunday we start training classes with him even though he has some basic commands and we are pretty confident about how to teach him. I find that going to a class together helps the bonding process. Good luck!

I just tried play bowing to my 2 staffies and got Hmm faces! But noticed they do a sitting bum bouncing move before they play, did that (I looked so odd!) and got included in a crazy play session.
Practice bum bouncing Hmm ......any other dogs do that?!

Thanks Hell, she's apparently very well trained but I'll deffo take on board the advice to set routines etc and give her space. She will be coming for short visits before she comes permanently so we have time I think
