hi hope someone can help me. i have seen this on my dogs face tonight? looks like it may be attached in some way. anyone any ideas what it could be ?

Does it look like a tiny bead? Can you see any legs sticking out from where it's attached?

looks like a small bead cant see any legd or anything. i cant get her to lay still so thinking trip to vets but cant get there till Monday its closed till then. what else can i try?

They will sell them at the pet shop or the vet. There's no need to waste money asking the vet to do it.

gotten up today i cant see the tick but she has a red lump where it was ? is this normal ?

If she's scratched the ticks body off it might have left the head inside. If you can't see please take her to a vet. Ticks carry Lyme's disease which can cause stiffness in joints, and problems with the kidneys, and sometimes the heart and nervous system. Please don't leave it, you could make her very ill.

Sorry I am late to this but yes that is a tick and you will need to take your dog to the vets to have the head removed.

MsAdora is absolutely right about Lyme's disease but having just attended a doggy First Aid Course at my vets, they is also a real danger of infection. The vet will need to ensure the whole of the tick (head included) has been removed and the sight is clear and clean.

Are you sure the red lump isn't the tick filled with blood ?

I bloody hate ticks. Useless, horrible creatures. Saw a little mouse once, stone dead, with two enormous bloated ticks on it. Dh said they'd probably drained so much bloody out of it that they'd killed it. Don't know if that's true but wasn't very nice.

Looks like a tick to me. I don't know why you would have to take your dog to the vet to have it removed though. Our dogs get them all the time. Living in Africa it is just one of those things here. Next time just get tweezers and pull off right from where it has gripped. The big grey ones you can burn off with a candle. They do leave a red mark, so just keep an eye on her for the next few days...

vet couldn't see her today getting seen 2moz. she wont let me look at it now must be hurting her. very worried

Blimey. There's really no need to be very worried.

It looked like a tick - and yes, they CAN carry Lyme disease, and yes they can cause an infection but to give it perspective, I have had multiple dogs for years and they have picked up many many ticks.

None of them have ever had an infection caused by a tick, nor have they caught Lyme disease - in fact none of the dogs I have come into contact with have either, so the risk is pretty minimal.

Don't be too alarmed penny, as long as you get it out and the area is clean and shows no sign of infection, I'm sure she'll be fine. It's only been a few days.

My friends dog had a tick bite that became infected. It was gross and full of puss. He was very under the weather, off his food and didn't want to go for a walk. The vet soon cleared it up and he was back to his normal self. As long as you get it seen to, it should be fine.
