Does a halti work?

Punter lab sometimes pulls when on the lead, excitement usually at the start of a walk. Would a halt head collar work?

My mum tried one on her Collie, didn't work on him. He is a wee menace though!

I use a Gentle Leader on my collie, I prefer if to a Halti.

Headcollars work in that they make pulling less strong so you can train a dog who is pulling too hard for you to manage, they don't actually stop dogs pulling though.

I've just bought a haqihana harness for my lab who is a bit of a puller in new and exciting places. it has made a massive difference. i feel much more in control and it is much kinder than the constant throttling caused by his collar. But i can already see its not a substitute to training. Infact it actually allows him to walk further ahead as the lead attaches half way down his back rather than his neck. I am still training as I walk by stopping but it does seem to have taken some of the power out of him. The haqihana is supposed to be one of the more comfortable harnesses because it doesnt sit right under their armpits and so doesnt rub - but it is pricey by comparison.

We recently got a figure of eight lead for our springer. She much prefers that to the Halti, seems much comfier and doesn't rub up into her eyes but does the same job.

I use as gen-con (figure of eight) and it makes such a difference to my pulling staffy

I prefer the canny collar and the advantage is it can be used as a normal flat collar as well .

I used a Halti with my rescue lab which pulled like a train. After a few weeks use no more pulling! She how just wears a normal collar and lead.

Love my dogmatic, my big pup doesn't pull really but can be very skittish in high winds so it definitely gives me control.
He doesn't complain about wearing it and it doesn't rub or ride up. British made too if you like that sort of thing.

Dogmatics are best.

The halti lasted for about half an hour, worked well during the walk but then someone had the bright idea of leaving it on him for a couple of minutes back in the house so he 'could get used to it'

The gentle leader also worked but was a nightmare to get on him as he hated it so much, preparing for every walk became a trauma.

We gave up in the end and we're just working on training him not to pull

Thirding the Dogmatic. Only thing that has stopped my ridiculously bouncy 8 month old GSD from trying dislocating my shoulders

Not sure, but my back is wrecked by the pulling of our very old dog.
