Cut pad not healing

Poor dog slashed his pad on glass two weeks ago - he had stitches but despite that the wound has come apart again. We've been keeping it as clean and dry as possible and he's not licking it but it's just not healing Sad. He's on short lead walks at the moment and v fed up but I'm wondering how long it's going to take- any experience?

If he heals anything like my dog I think you will have to stop the walks completely - my dog had a toe amputated , so slightly different but same kind of area ,and it took about 3 weeks of not walking at all before it finally was healed over enough to exercise - we had also had issues with stitches breaking down

Deep cuts to pads can take months to heal as it takes over 12 weeks for the layers to mature on the pad.

Yep, sorry Basildon. Ddog1 had a very deep cut in his pad last year, it took weeks of no walking at all, much to his disgust. They very easily separate and have to heal inside to out iyswim?

how's he going to cope?? (how am I going to cope ...)

It's tough. I do understand, mine are spaniels used to having 2 hours exercise a day. I did lots of training and used Kongs etc, but he did much better than I imagined.

Then ddog2 was attacked a broke his leg...... now that was a long time Smile

Thanks ... (I think!)

He's not quite 2 and very active - he's used to at least 2 hours a day of zipping around being fast and busy. He's such a happy-go-lucky dog I don't want his mental well-being to be affected plus we've been careful to build up his muscle tone to help his hip so I'm worried he'll lose that and store up further problems down the line

How long did the broken leg take, need?
