Finding a groomer for a standard poodle - Leighton Buzzard/Milton Keynes

We are due to collect our new pup in just over a weeks time. I have been looking round for a decent groomer and don't really know where to start. My breeder isn't local - so not much use (plus she grooms her dogs herself).
I've found lots of groomers and have popped into some.

Is it normal to charge the same price to groom a small puppy as it is an adult dog?

Most things I've read suggest 6-8 weekly visits - but one groomer told me I'd need to visit every 4 weeks. I fully intend to keep the dog well groomed at home - so how often would the dog need to be clipped?
Finally - what should I be looking out for when visiting a groomers?

Any advice or personal recommendations would be really helpful.

You could try contacting the local area rep of the Standard Poodle Club for recommendations? There's a list of them here.

Another option is looking for a local ringcraft club and asking there. Ringcraft is brilliant for socialising puppies as well so easy enough to pop along and see if there are any other poodle owners.

I can't help with your other questions as I've a breed that never needs to see the inside of a groomers!!

Thanks for that. I am due to visit a local dog club once the puppy arrives and will have a look out for other (well-groomed) poodles.
Will contact our local rep now.

I know someone who gets their (miniature) poodle "done" in Tring.....to far?

Not necessarily - if they're good. Can you post the details?
Thanks
