fleas!

If it's not one thing it's another! Just had dogs groomed and was told one of them has fleas. Its obviously not bad enough for us to notice. I was a week late with the advocate, and we'd been to a holiday rental during that time so I can see how it happened. My question is this: I put the advocate on both immediately but do I have to do anything in the house? (And i tried googling but kept seeing pics and it's made me feel like my skin is crawling! )

Oh no, poor you. I use advocate and do it every 4 weeks, although it says every month (I assume they mean calendar).

Surprised that the advocate had not even worked a little bit?

What size dog do you have and what size advocate do you buy?

I hope this bumps it for some real flea advice and good luck with getting rid!

I also use advocate, on the same date every month and so far (finger crossed) there have been no fleas

I get mine from the vet and it is based on the dogs weight - I was surprised that my cocker spaniel is classified as a large dog, but he meets the weight criteria of being 10k plus

It really does seem to work for us, but if you have already found fleas, you will need, not only to treat the dog, but also their surroundings i.e. wash bedding, sofa throws etc in very hot water to try and break the cycle. It may take a few days for advocate to kick in, but it really does work and all the washing will ensure no re-infestation

Thankfully I don't think it was a bad infestation.

We use the advocate for large dogs. I'm supposed to do it on the 1st of the month but am realising you have a good point there Lesley, I will work out how to set a 28 day reminder.

Thankfully also my dogs seemed to vote with their feet and they had quit wanting to use certain beds (we have three bed dog areas and one set is an old set that is filled with something straw/hair like) where I suspect the fleas had also moved in, so I've put these outside for the time being, out of the reach of dogs, where I'm hoping the elements will clear out the fleas.

Two lessons learned. I need to keep on top of the advocate, and I need to be mindful when going to dog friendly holiday rentals!

Anyway, I think it's cleared up. I only ever saw one flea. I was just worried they would take over the house - we have carpet and I worried they would bed in!

Glad it sounds sorted. How many fleas did the groomer see, are they sure it was actually fleas?

Does your dog swim or bathe a lot?
