3 hrs for vet appt, help reassure me?

Any one have any ideas? My dog just came in from the garden walking ok but head tilted, shaking her head. Obviously distressed, had a little sip of water and wants us near but also went to a corner, which she never does. Vet can't see us sooner but also was reassured as she isn't D&/orV. I'm so worried. Any experience of this?

Ps, nothing in her ears.

How old is she? Can she hold her gaze steady or are her eyes flickering from side to side? any balance problems?
In an older dog I'd think of vestibular syndrome, in a younger one it's foreign body in the ear, often grass seeds, until proven otherwise. they often work their way down the ear canal so you can't see them without an otoscope.

Could be an ear infection.

Last year one of my dogs was sleeping but when he woke up and tried to get up he could barely walk, was staggering around with his head tilted and was really distressed. 10 minutes later he was fine. I thought he'd had a stroke but I think it may have been vestibular disease although he's not had any problems since. He's only 7 (was 6 at the time) but is a big dog.

Thanks for getting back to me. Was just googling again. She's about 10 years old, they say you can't be sure with rescues. She can hold a sready gaze. Doesn't seem to have a balance problem. We did walk in a freshly mown field yesterday by accident.

That's kind of you honeyroar. Yes she is. She began to recouperate quite well after a few hours but we took her to vet anyway who said she had a bit of an ear infection. Seems too mild a diagnosis for the serious-seeming symptoms she had, but the symptoms did ease quickly and she's bouncing with energy now, minus the times she's getting meds put into her ear!

So glad she's feeling better and it was nothing serious.

By the way, I had an ear infection once and was bed bound for a week. I thought I had mad cows disease (it was around that time) as I couldn't walk without help. The reason I couldn't walk was that I was so dizzy I couldn't balance at all. I could even slightly turn my head without the room spinning violently. It was the most debilitating illness I've ever had and yet was nothing major at all. All the doctor could do was give me travel sickness pills.

I'm sorry to hear that happened Lindt but thanks for sharing, that's helpful to know that an ear infection can have such a strong effect.
