problems getting breeders to reply

Hi sorry this is the second thread I have started (other one was breed-specific) but I was wondering if breeders have some kind of "ignore you three times to see if you're serious" policy... I have emailed in response to 10-15 ads on Kennel Club and other websites and heard nothing back, left a phone message for a breed club president, heard nothing, called twice to a breeder who said to use phone and not email, heard nothing...

Am I doing something wrong?

I doubt they have a "ring three times" policy, but I've heard before that breeders can be a but slow getting back! How long have you left it? What information did you give in the message? If they've not got litters planned they might not reply (rude, I think but there you go).

What breed are you looking for?

Having the same problem.

yeah we found the same. sometimes phone numbers had changed. often there was no reason. keep trying Smile

I'm a little surprised if its kennel club registered people, but in general I find breeders don't bother to return calls or even e-mails unless they have a confirmed pregnancy and not enough people on their waiting list to take the whole of the expected litter.

Is it a very special breed you are after?

Ah I see its a miniature dachshund, and that on your other thread you've had advice about who to contact - not sure if anyone recommended the Dachshund Breed Council:

Hi bridges I eventually got through to some people today; no luck on a puppy though they are apparently insanely popular atm! My auntie always had them which is why I want one, I have lots of fond memories of hers especially one called Tina who was super smart and loved playing with us all.
One breeder has put me on her list so I guess I just have to wait it out!

If that's what you want I reckon you should wait, good luck!

I'm experiencing the same problem with breed rescues. We decided a few weeks ago that we'd like a specific breed rescue dog so I filled in adoption forms for 3 different rescue organisations. Only 1 has got back to me so far with a question (which I replied to a week ago) but I'm no further forward than I was 2 weeks ago. I don't want to pester them as I'm sure they're busy, but I want them to know I'm serious about taking on a rescue dog. Smile
