Major abdominal surgery (me) 10 month old dog

Any advice gratefully received by anyone who has had surgery (full recovery time 6 weeks, no driving etc.) At the moment my dog looks to me as his main carer so my husband and teen kids will have to step up. But what can I expect in terms of dealing with a dog and this and how I will/he might cope. Any suggestions thoughts/looked into! Tia.

No experience of abdominal surgery but when my MIL came to visit after breaking her hip my dogs changed completely - they're quite active labs who usually barge around but all that stopped for the duration of the visit. They definitely knew they needed to be careful.

However - they are adult dogs, not an adolescent. I would make sure that your DH and the children are keeping him busy and active, so he's less likely to be bouncing around the house.

TBH I'd have a back up plan - just in case! Is there any chance he (or you!) could go and stay somewhere for a bit?

I agree that my dog knew to be careful around me last year when I had major abdominal surgery. I used a cushion over my tummy for protection when I was sitting on the settee. Someone else walked him for me. He was very gentle. Good luck with the operation.
