How do I stop my dog?

lilwelshyrs · 29/05/2015 20:51

My dog keeps climbing onto the back of my sofa and curling up on the top cushion like a cat!
I never catch him at it... I just come home to a massive dent in the sofa! We put furniture on the sofa so he doesn't get on the main cushions but he still defies it and gets on the back of the sofa!

Help! What can I do?!

If you are a soft touch like me, you get used to it, chuck over a throw and accept this four legged pig bag owns your arse for the next thirteen years or so.
I gave in, it's his favourite spot to cat watch Blush

Sorry. That wasn't helpful.

yeh i gave in too! Confused

LokiBuddyBoo1 · 30/05/2015 00:27

Mine loves to do that I have a permanent dent in one spot on the back of the sofa he also loves to do it in my sisters house too I think it's a small dog thing they like to be high up to see more.
I tried to stop him but in the end I just give in its like his favourite spot to nap.

The solution is leave the dog to it and beat the back of the sofa with a rolling pin wrapped in a tea towel every week to plump it back up. It's actually therapeutic...

Gave up and let it happen, could of told her off every time and caught her in the act but I couldn't be bothered in the end , she's happy and off of my lap for once

WhatHappensNextNow · 30/05/2015 01:00

Yup! We gave up too!

lilwelshyrs · 30/05/2015 13:19

Haha, thanks everyone. Argh, guess I'll have to give in... Nothing's sacred is it?! I've lost my armchair to the big dog too!! Pampered pooches.

I let my dogs on the sofa but we all have our different rules. If you want it to stop, maybe have a think about that particular area... what is it he likes so much about it? It is a sunnier spot, is the cushioning more comfortable than his own dog bed etc.

So many dog beds are really badly made with thin bases and offer little support or comfort. A better bed of his own could be enough to solve things. Dogs tend to go where they are most comfortable Smile

Eric likes the back of the sofa too, we've put a throw on there for him because it's his favoured spot when we are out. I think he likes it because it is comfy and he gets a good view. He prefers to lie near people's feet though when we are in.

This is the lay of the land in our house...

Hehehe, that reminds me of this Smile

CMOTDibbler · 31/05/2015 18:01

ddog2 likes to do that too. I have no idea why, but evilgingercat now does it too, I think just to ensure there is nothing the dog does that he doesn't.

SistersofPercy · 31/05/2015 21:21

Lime, that's pretty much it Grin

LimeJellyHead · 01/06/2015 09:20

lol Grin

lilwelshyrs · 01/06/2015 21:40

Lime - it might be to get a better view as my big dog has stolen his arm chair haha. It doesn't get any sunlight until late in the afternoon, and he loves to sunbathe.

LOL @ Sisters!! I love it! How does something so small take up so much space?! I was in a single bed last night as was away with mates and pooches and there was no way my boy was getting up with me! I'd have fallen out of bed!!

Lil, he defies the law of physics I'm sure. When stretched and at a certain angle he really can take up most of the bed. I've puzzled over how he does it and given up.

Problem is he's very spoiled and dd and I are a real soft touch with him and he knows it. Love him to bits though so he's forgiven.

ancientbuchanan · 01/06/2015 22:53

The AncientJRT a) does the top of the armchair thing. And b.) the bed thing. The Buchanans have a tiny amount of bed if he is there. Fortunately he prefers his cage for most if the night. Which, given that it has extra cushions and rugs, blankets thrown over it to keep it dark, cosy and draught free, and is next to a lovely warm radiator, with maturing bonios ripening for that midnight snack, is hardly surprising.

Nacho has it down to a fine art form lol
