My daughter and son in law have a two year old mini schnauzer who is the centre of their universe. He is very loving and gentle. My daughter has just found out that she is pregnant. Obviously they want the dog to accept a baby and we are anxious that we do what we can to prepare him for the new arrival. Any advice welcome.

The Dogs Trust have a leaflet on introducing your dog to a new baby here

Ask at your local vets if there are any groups for bumps babies and dogs. We have one that runs near us which talks it all through with you etc

Thanks for that, both of you. Will do some reading and research. Think I will be far more anxious about it than they will!

I've got two dogs and am pregnant with my first DC. My big dog is amazing with kids - just wants to lick them! She came from a home that had a child introduced to her family. She came to us because her owners living arrangements changed.
My other dog was a stray I rescued from Sicily. It's taken him a while to like children. He now is tolerant of the neighbours children stroking him but will still come and hide behind me if he's worried.
The more time he's been around kids, the better he's become.
There's loads of information online - the key thing I've been learning about is that it's important that the dog does what he is told when he is told. The next 6 months will be fine tuning that and making sure the dogs don't get too excited when I fuss a pile of clothes (pretending it's a baby!)!

Reg is well used to children. My daughter and son in law teach at a boarding school and live on site so not worried in that respect. Early days yet so they have time to prepare them all for big changes!
