Our beloved dog is being put to sleep in a few weeks. He has a number of serious health conditions and has been ill since a puppy. He's not even three yet. I spent a long time tonight sobbing into his lovely fur and telling him that I'm sorry Sad

What lovely things can we do to make his last few weeks special? I'm already planning all of the (usually off limit) things I'm going to feed him (steak, sausages, cat food! etc). We're going to bury him in his favourite part of the garden and plant a tree on top.

Sorry the post is a bit jumbled, quite upset at the moment x

I was just about holding it together until I saw that your dog is a GR.
So sorry it's time for him to go but you know it's the right thing and the last act of love for him.
If I know GR'a you can't let his last bit of time special by feeding him forbidden foods and letting him sleep on his special human.
We buried our last one with one of my slippers that he always coverted.

So sorry, Bella

When I knew it was time for my girl to be PTS I didn't change too much - I think the change to routine wouldn't have helped in her case as she was lame in one leg, so the lovely long walks would have been unfair on her. I was told I would pretty much have a month, and it turned out to be 4 weeks to the day from diagnosis to PTS. I moved to sleep in the lounge with her for the last weeks as I didn't want her doing stairs in the last weeks as there was risk she would get hurt. She could eat pretty much anything she wanted; human food, cat food etc.

Her last day I went to work in the morning and was promptly sent home by my boss. So my girl and I went to my Dad's to hang out with his dogs. She lay on a bed on the decking in the sunlight having one last sunbathe before eventually we went to the vets and said goodbye.

I know a lot of people choose to have it happen at home, but that wasn't the right choice for me. I needed the opportunity to get away from it once it had happened, but I know it's a great comfort for some, so make sure you pick what works for you and your beautiful boy. It sounds like you're making the right choice, even though it's the hardest choice and the worst bit about accepting these creatures into our lives.

So sorry Bella, it really is hard. We made the decision yesterday to pts our beautiful boy. This happened this morning. Sadly he was too poorly to do his usual walk or go for a swim, but he slept with us last night and he had all his favourite foods (including tangfastics, very naughty). He did appear to complete his own bucket list last night when he caught his first fly in his 9 years! It was almost like he had then achieved everything he wanted.

I'm so sorry squeezed Flowers. Hope you're holding up ok.

My boy is pretty much eating whatever he wants at the moment! He'll be sleeping in my bed from next week. He snores and makes a right racket at night!
