This is our rescue dog, she is 1 year old (bar a few days) and weighs 11kg but what is her cross do you think? (Her sister has been DNA tested and the result surprised me)

looks like border collie plus something else, I think the ears and feathering are a clue but not sure. Lovely dog by the way!

JennyOnTheBlocks · 11/05/2015 22:00

she's gorgeous!

saluki?

airedailleurs · 11/05/2015 22:05

border collie plus papillon? 11kg is quite small, smaller than she looks iykwim!

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/05/2015 22:07

border collie X whippet?

crap guess I know.

She's beautiful though

Bubble2bubble · 11/05/2015 22:30

11kg is tiny for a collie - she's not a collie / Pom is she?

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 11/05/2015 22:49

The result came back as 1. Border Collie 2. Rough Collie and 3....

German Shepherd!

She's on the small side of collie height wise, she's 50cm to her shoulder, but she's all fur and no real mass to her body, we are hoping that now she's finished growing upwards she might start to fill out. The vet reckons she's working line rather than show line which would fit with her slenderness.

Came on here to say GSD! I think it's the ears and snout that gave it away!

GinBunny · 11/05/2015 23:25

Oh she's beautiful, and the spit of my old dog who was a German Shephard Collie X. The boys in the litter were all GS build with collie colouring and the girls were all collie build with GS colouring. All adorable. Have fun with her Smile

piggychops · 11/05/2015 23:32

There can be mixed parentage in a litter of pups if the bitch has mated with more than one dog in the same season, so sister DNA results may be very different from yours.

Bubble2bubble · 12/05/2015 07:45

Well wow, yes I can see the ears now ! She is so lovely :) might have some growing to do though...

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 16/05/2015 21:24

Can anyone recommend a good brush for a Yorkie x? I have not had a long haired dog before and I would appreciate some advice.
His fur is the same as a full Yorkie. He is a rescue, had to have mats cut out when he arrived at the rescue. Only had his two weeks so he is still settling in. He is a sensitive little dog and I don't want to put him off being groomed.
TIA

HazleNutt · 16/05/2015 21:30

Want to guess mine? I haven't had them tested, but we know the parents. Mum is a mix herself, dad is a purebreed though - guess what? They're big dogs, 40 kilos.

basildonbond · 17/05/2015 09:08

Hazle- I'd guess golden retriever and maybe Toller? (But they'd be absolutely gigantic for Toller crosses ...). With maybe flat coat retriever (one of the yellow ones) and as a completely left-field guess hovawart???

basildonbond · 17/05/2015 09:09

Bananas - it's probably best if you start a new thread as you'll then get people who know about yorkies/grooming/long-haired dogs in general

CMOTDibbler · 17/05/2015 09:14

Any ideas on mine? We have no idea, and I haven't got round to doing a dna test
He is a dark blue, and has bi colour eyes such that the outer is golden, middle is dark grey

Ooh I love a good guess the breed..

hazle I would go with goldie and something like Pyrenean?

CMOT I am thinking Doberman/collie, or maybe some whippet - is he very fast?

CMOTDibbler · 17/05/2015 10:40

Theres def whippet - he is fast, and turns like a whippet (as opposed to our other dog who has more greyhound and only runs in straight lines).

This is his mum - she was dumped when heavily pregnant - if it helps

He'll be one this week, and looks like bambi still - huge long legs and a little deep chested body on top Smile

My yellow boy in this pic is quite an unusual mix. We have had him tested and are pretty confident the result was accurate.

He is stunning CMOT his mum looks like a dobe / collie to me actually but it's probably not as staightforward as that!

CMOTDibbler · 17/05/2015 10:53

Thank you Bubble - he attracts a huge amount of attention when we are out!

You can see his shape better here

Is your boy a lab/akita?

HazleNutt · 17/05/2015 11:15

Basildon, I also agree that the one on the left looks like a hovawart. We have met a few and honestly you couldn't tell a difference. The one on the right, people usually think he's a big golden.

Neither though, their dad is an Irish Setter. Grandpa from mum's side is rumoured to have been a Caucasian Shepherd, so that might explain the size.

Bubble2bubble · 17/05/2015 20:25

CMOT you are good - his DNA said one parent an Akita and the other mainly collie - I suspect lab collie though lab did come further down the list. We hadn't thought about it much until one day I met a stranger who said "lovely Akita you have there.." Shock
He looked like a lab until suddenly getting a lot hairier when he was about 18 months but his character seems to fit the Akita characteristics perfectly.

JoffreyBaratheonFirstofHisName · 18/05/2015 11:02

Our dog is a staffy/JRT cross - the Dogs Trust were sure about the staffy bit as they saw mum - and the feckless owner said that she got out when in season and they think she was got up the duff by a JRT. But we think they were deliberately bred together and they knew full well her dad was JRT. Two vets have both said she looks like staff/Jrt.

A couple of people have said to us that she might be 3/4 staff and her dad might be the one that was a staff/JRT cross as she looks so much like a very small staffy. Hasn't been weighed in ages but she looks to be around 12-14 KG, and she looks like a staff with tan/white JRT colouring/markings - only thing that is non staffy about her is the shape of her chest - she has that deep staffy 'keel' but a narrow, rounded chest in front like a JRT.

Oh yes and she has the JRT ticking - staffies have pigment spots on their skin. She has these buit also develops new tan spots on her otherwise white coat. One of her brothers - also tan and white - had a pure white body at 9 weeks but now he is as spotty as a dalmatian! And she is also still getting new 'spots' not just skin pigment but her fur changes colour.

Personality wise she seems almost pure staff (I have had two pedigree staffs in the past). But is a bit more growly/vocal which I'm told is a JRT thing. She also took an AGE to toilet train which people on a JRT forum told me can happen.

OP - I guessed GSD! Shape of the head!

ender · 18/05/2015 19:27

CMOT yours is a similar shape to mine, large chest and long legs, floppy ears.
He's v fast and runs like a deer through the woods, lots of jumping, always assumed he's a mixture of so many (rescue from Ireland) breeds I wouldn't get a proper result on testing. Would it be worth testing?
