Dh and I overslept this morning and left Monty in the care of the dds

I came down to wee on the carpet, in his crate, on the sofa Hmm and a poo on the bed in his crate.

Dd1 did tell me not to worry about his breakfast though as she'd fed him. She put it in his bowl so it covered the bottom, boiled the kettle, let it cool for a few minutes and given it to him. She was very pleased with herself so I told her well done. Then I worked out that he'd had twice as much as he should have done. No wonder he went out and did a massive poo on the garden.

Apparently he likes jumping off their laps from the sofa to the floor. Was doing this this morning. Bit worried now. He's a lab and he shouldn't be putting any kind of pressure on his joints at this age. Have explained this to them, as much as an eight year old and six year old can understand.

Must not oversleep in future. Ever.

well i saw that coming Shock the dog is your responsibility not the DCs what if he had bitten them ? how old are the DC ?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/05/2015 15:07

Um, ok, thanks anyway. I don't think I've seen your name on my threads before.

They are eight and six, as I said. He is ten weeks and probably not going to do them any harm. If you have read any of my previous threads about my dogs you wouldn't have any concerns about my responsibilities but thanks anyway.

For all my doggy mummies, this is him pretending he's angelic. Grin

He's adorable. I once left my shih tzu in the conservatory with the kids came back to find him ripping up a box of tissues standing in a puddle of wee. I'd only went up to make the beds.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/05/2015 15:18

Monty is absolutely adorable, MsAdorabelle. But surely you are not suggesting that the angelic look is not a true reflection of his angelic character? You wouldn't be insinuating that that puppy is just pretending he's good, you? Shock

Monty - I know you are perfectly behaved at all times, and if she carries on telling such fibs about you, you can come and live with me!!

He is beautiful. My Otis is 20 weeks and looks like a bigger version of him. Your dds tried their best, bless em Smile

Stinkersmum · 10/05/2015 15:20

I don't think kids that young should be left alone around animals, especially young animals. And I cannot believe you let an 8 year old use a kettle. What were you thinking??

Whathaveilost · 10/05/2015 15:23

well i saw that coming the dog is your responsibility not the DCs what if he had bitten them ? how old are the DC

What a friggin ridiculous post!

Whathaveilost · 10/05/2015 15:25

stinkers your helpful as well! FFS! Stupid posters coming to slap misery on the OP.
did you not read that she had overslept? Like it was an accident!
Idiot.

Velvetbee · 10/05/2015 15:29

Why can't an 8 year old use a kettle?

Humansatnav · 10/05/2015 15:36

Looks Like the perfect crew have arrived Hmm.
Op, whilst I was writing my post before Otis grabbed washing off the airer and dragged it around the garden.
Sleeping in is no biggie.

DoristheNovice · 10/05/2015 15:39

Crikey the drama queens are out in force today aren't they Confused..... I let my 8 year old use the kettle because she's not an idiot can be trusted to be sensible.

Anyway, I had a lie in last Sunday. My two DD's were also asleep so that left my DH to look after our 14 week old pup. Good lord the mess! Tissues ripped up, DD's teddy bear half mangled, spilled water from her bowl everywhere and a puppy turd in the utility room. He thought I was being a cow for moaning because he did feed her after all ( yes, MIL's older dog's kibble who we were looking after for the weekend ) I probably won't be having another lie in for another year or so I'm guessing Wink

Your pups gorgeous MsAdorabelle

DragonsCanHop · 10/05/2015 15:41

An 8 year old can't boil a kettle? Was it boiling on an open fire op?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/05/2015 15:46

the perfect crew Grin

Yes my eight year old can use a kettle. And a toaster. She doesn't use the kettle much though, it has to be said. She should make me a cup of tea, the lazy arse. Grin

He's not been too bad on the chewing front. Just the toilet training. One day you think you're making progress and then the next, nope, he still thinks the utility room is a loo.

No Dragon just a regular work top. Although we do have a wood burner we could stand an open boiling pan on. Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 10/05/2015 15:49

Oh what a gorgeous pup.

Trills · 10/05/2015 15:53

What's the point in having kids if you don't get them to make you cups of tea as soon as possible?

They shoudl be mixing gin and tonic by 6 (no dangerous boiling water involved) and tea by 8.

insanityscatching · 10/05/2015 16:24

Oh he is so lovely I feel somewhat jealous until I think about the puppy antics. I came down to find dd (12) and Eric having a mutual lovefest aided no doubt by the biscuits they were sharing. I'm currently wearing him like a scarf whilst he snores in my ear Hmm

myusernameisusername · 10/05/2015 16:40

yes im so perfect Hmm don't you set an alarm on the evening before bed OP i thought all parents did. i find your attitude and the others agreeing with you appalling the plethora of things that could have gone wrong and hurt either your children or the dog or both doesn't bear thinking about

timelord1912 · 10/05/2015 16:43

Bad parenting if I'm being honest, why have kids if you can't be bothered to look after them on a morning, and for a 10 week old puppy looking after the kids! Dogs yes are a part of family but they aren't babysitters, As for it peeing and pooing everywhere, thats bad training, labs should be taught from day 1 that they can't do it and they learn fast, obviously not from you!

myusernameisusername · 10/05/2015 16:52

Agreed labs are extremely intelligent and he should know to go to the door by now not be peeing or pooing indoors

basildonbond · 10/05/2015 17:05

You're not being serious surely Grin erm people do sometimes do things like oversleep and as for expecting a 10-week old puppy of any breed to be reliably house-trained, well..... I can only suggest you must be looking back on puppyhood with extremely rose-tinted spectacles Hmm

MsAdorabelle - that's probably the last lie-in you have this year!

And yes Monty is gorgeous even if some posters are insinuating that he's a bit backward Wink

Stinkersmum · 10/05/2015 17:14

Firstly - you're. As in 'you're welcome' :)
Secondly - I wasn't slapping on misery, I posted an opinion on a public forum. Not quite sure what the problem is.
Thirdly - the OP over sleeps, her unsupervised 8 year old uses a kettle, her dog shits and pees everywhere and I'M the idiot? Er, ok then Confused
The only reason I can think of for your rather ridiculous response is that you're a labour voter. There there, never mind. Flowers

myusernameisusername · 10/05/2015 17:16

i like you stinkers Grin common sense prevails

timelord1912 · 10/05/2015 17:18

ive had a lab which took 2 week to toilet train that ive had for 10 years till last year when he died of cancer,

I'm not saying bad things about monty, he may well turn into a great companion, but he needs boundaries set up now not later, being a parent is challenging and being a dog owner is also challenging but for both it makes it 4x more difficult, if you want lie in's in future concentrate on the present.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/05/2015 17:18

Thanks bas Grin

Bad parenting if I'm being honest, why have kids if you can't be bothered to look after them

Really? So you mean I can't pack then off down a coal mine when they get under my feet? Bollocks.

It can take months to reliably toilet train a puppy and unfortunately once they've done it indoors the scent will linger and encourage a repetition. Usually you limit the dogs to a small area and increase it marginally so they learn their boundaries. He's pretty good 95% of the time but if it's pouring with rain outside or he's snuck off for a second accidents can happen. If anyone had toilet trained a puppy from 'day one' I'd like to know their secret. As would the rest of the world I should imagine.

He does go to the door. And then he pees on the mat if you're not quick enough. That's life. If you seriously expect otherwise perhaps dog ownership isn't for you.
