Dh and I overslept this morning and left Monty in the care of the dds

I came down to wee on the carpet, in his crate, on the sofa Hmm and a poo on the bed in his crate.

Dd1 did tell me not to worry about his breakfast though as she'd fed him. She put it in his bowl so it covered the bottom, boiled the kettle, let it cool for a few minutes and given it to him. She was very pleased with herself so I told her well done. Then I worked out that he'd had twice as much as he should have done. No wonder he went out and did a massive poo on the garden.

Apparently he likes jumping off their laps from the sofa to the floor. Was doing this this morning. Bit worried now. He's a lab and he shouldn't be putting any kind of pressure on his joints at this age. Have explained this to them, as much as an eight year old and six year old can understand.

Must not oversleep in future. Ever.

Stumbled on this thread by accident and I am slightly agog at some of the responses.

We all sleep in sometimes, it happens.

Puppies do have accidents, it happens.

8 year old children using the kettle, why the hell not? I was brought up molly coddled, I was bloody useless in early adulthood tbh.

Lovely puppy OP. I have two young spaniels, they stink at present as we have had an hours walk in muddy fields and they needed hosing off, nothing like the smell of damp dog. I love 'em though Smile

Stinkersmum · 11/05/2015 09:24

If people can't see for themselves the danger of a young child using a boiling kettle unsupervised for themselves, I very much doubt any explanation given by me or anyone else will actually get through.

needastrongone · 11/05/2015 09:29

My DC iron their clothes too, and have done since they were in year 6. I clearly need reporting.

Oh, and I, by accident, left our back gate open last week. My little dog had a wander up the street, the neighbour took him home. Had he wandered further he MIGHT have got to the road. He didn't. The OP didn't mean to over sleep.

Ilovecapeverde1 · 11/05/2015 09:36

I think your children sound great, you've brought them up well, they were helping out without being asked. Good on them. I always have a lie in on a Sunday, why not! Children of that age don't need you to be up early. I have children of the same age and they always make me a cuppa on a Sunday!

Irelephant · 11/05/2015 09:38

hirples brownies still do this its where my oldest DD got her tea making skills from two years ago.

MarniRose · 11/05/2015 09:39

Well it sounds fairly normal I suppose to me BUT I agree that if you'd posted exactly the same OP but added ' and the dog nipped my child's face and drew blood,' then you'd be getting flamed to high hell. My youngest is 8 and no, I wouldn't allow him to use a kettle whilst I was in bed but that's just me. I don't personally feel it's worth the risk.

addstudentdinners2 · 11/05/2015 09:41

Thank god for this thread as I've just what danger I came into contact with as a child.

We had a little cavalier king charles spaniel. Sometimes my mother LEFT ME ALONE WITH HER. When she, you know, had to use the loo or whatever.

I also used to make cups of tea. WITH A BOILING KETTLE.

It's a miracle I'm alive.

" I agree that if you'd posted exactly the same OP but added ' and the dog nipped my child's face and drew blood,' then you'd be getting flamed to high hell."

With a puppy? I very nearly called mine jaws tbh, there was more teeth than puppy at one point I'm sure. I'm more surprised that a puppy that age didn't bite than I'd be outraged if it did.

MarniRose · 11/05/2015 09:59

Yeah definitely. This op would have been flamed if the dog had bitten, puppy or not. This is the doghouse ... I can only imagine !

I don't think it's a huge deal incidentally. I certainly don't spring up out of bed to watch my kids with our 9 month old kitten for example.

Anyway, I'd have been more cross with myself as I wouldn't like to come down to poo everywhere

addstudentdinners2 · 11/05/2015 10:01

Yes, quite. Puppies are nippy. Just like kittens are scratchy. When our two were kittens my arms were all scratches. Not a big deal.

Koalafications · 11/05/2015 12:09

addstudentdinners2 Sad your childhood sounds awful. I'm so sorry your parents put you in such danger! [hugs] hope you can get through the day after reliving such triggering memories...

addstudentdinners2 · 11/05/2015 12:13

Koala I know, I actually don't know how I'm going to manage to get through this...I mean, just thinking of my poor little 8 y old self, alone with a terrifying dog constantly wanting to lick and cuddle me....HOLDING A KETTLE!!

EasyToEatTiger · 11/05/2015 12:52

Welcome to my world! Must get out with the pup now and see how we go with the traffic.

SistersofPercy · 11/05/2015 14:11

Adora honey, where you went wrong was not putting youngest in cage, have eldest use boiled kettle to make cup of tea and you take adorable pup back to bed for snuggles.

Please remember that for next weekend Grin

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 11/05/2015 14:28

Ha ha yes, I will remember that. Grin

You guys. Wink Grin

Fair enough...

Sorry for the loss of your dog. Flowers

atonofwashing · 13/05/2015 09:58

Hi there Msadorabelle!
Glad to see family life with Monty is coming along nicely!
Nothing to add really. Only that he looks so handsome and cuddly.
Hopefully you'll have some decent weather so you can get outside and help Monty walk off his enormous breakfast!
Wink Smile

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 13/05/2015 22:34

Hi atonofwashing how's it going? Grin

He's coming along nicely. Training is going well. We've drilled it into the girls now that we get up for puppy first and if we don't they are to wake us up!

atonofwashing · 14/05/2015 20:40

Hi there, yes all fine thanks.
Still checking in to the doghouse - really miss our old girl.

Prob for the best that you don't leave early morning puppy chores to your girls, but am sure they will love the responsibilities as they all grow up together. Especially a good long walk in foul weather Grin
Xx
