Shes 8 months old, white and deaf. The last couple of days we noticed she had a dark patch (not like her black fur spots that shes developing) om the top of her head. she had sap stuck to her bum once and it kind of looked like this but not sticky or anything. Just dirty looking. today we have noticed that it's more like a bald patch. its literally right on the top of her head between her ears. Are staffys prone to any type of skin problems? I'll take her to the vets in the week but just wondered what anyone thinks it may be. shes been flead and her injections are up to date but hasn't been speyed yet fwiw.

Does she sleep in or spend time in a crate? I have a SBT X currently and prior to me getting him a bigger crate, he was rubbing his head top on the bars and getting this little bald patch on his napper.

ahh bless :) yes, she sleeps in it at night but it's quite a large one for her size. I dont think shes rubbing on it but I'll check tonight Smile thank you for that, ill let you know!

I have an 8 month old white staffy cross!

Staffs can be prone to demodectic mange. 30 years ago we had a staffy who got this - she was treated and recovered fully and never got it again. I remember the vet saying the breed are prone to it, and it starts most often when they are a few months old.

Might not be this but the vet will do a skin scrape if they suspect it.

Staffies and white dogs are both very prone to skin issues... a white staffie is therefore doubly so, and I'd recommend insuring her (although this current skin thing could possibly render dermatitis a pre-existing condition.)

Could be mange, ringworm, pyoderma, trauma...

I'd take her to the vets to get it checked out, they are definitely prone to getting nasty skin conditions. My SBT suffered with skin problems on her head and tummy quite a lot when she was younger (

Oops posted too soon!

Hope she's back to normal soon.

Thank you so much for all the replies, I will definitely ring the vets and get her seen. My mum had a Westie and she had terrible skin so I know what you're saying about the white dog/skin problems thing.

I looked last night when she went in her cage and no, it's not rubbing her noggin but I'll keep an eye out for it in the future.

We got her insured as soon as we got her so that's all good.

Noticed last night aswell that she seems extra pink under one armpit area (is that what it's called in a dog?) obviously she's very pink anyway but this particular spot seemed more so, maybe a rash?

My white staffy cross got hit in the eye by a piece of pizza shrapnel last week and the skin round her eye, within seconds, was bright red. It calmed down quickly too and within an hour or two looked normal again. Their skin does seem to be sensitive.

My friends staffy has a small but noticeable bald patch in the same place. They asked the vet and he said it's an allergy, she's allergic to grass.
