Does your vet have an emergency number you can just ring for advice? With mine you ring and leave a message and he'll ring back and ask what the problem is. I did this last summer when the little git ate a box of raisins and vet said just keep an eye on him. I imagine the bag will just pass through.

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2015 20:59

I will give them a ring now sigh didnt even have a chance to pick it up

My friends dog coughed up a rock the other day, I'm sure your dog will hopefully yack it up or poo it out! Fingers crossed.

ShizeItsWeegie · 29/04/2015 21:03

Vet nurse here. How big is the dog, how big the bag? Anything bigger than a Jack Russell will pass and average size placcy sarnie bag tomorrow afternoon with no problems at all. I would not be inclined to make him vomit as placcy bags cause more trouble coming up than they do going through!

tabulahrasa · 29/04/2015 21:03

I'd watch for it coming out the other end...while you're waiting, any sickness or constipation or seeming to be out of sorts would mean a vet trip.

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2015 21:08

He is bigger than a jack russel he is a bit smaller than a border collie and the bags not very big they are cheap pondland ones so not like thick freezer bags iyswim ill watch him and his rear end thank you left a message at vets too

Keep us posted as to when it passes! My lab will eat anything given half the chance, wild mushrooms, plastic etc. it amazes me how he is not constantly ill.

BigRedBall · 29/04/2015 21:18

Can we have a poo bag birth watch thread? Grin

tabulahrasa · 29/04/2015 21:21

Oh and the other thing you kind of need to keep an eye on with foreign objects that are long and bendy (cloth does this as well) is that sometimes they only pass some of it...and it's part in and part out, which then needs you to intervene.

Dogs are such rewarding pets, lol

Mrsjayy · 29/04/2015 21:35

Oh jesus wept do you mean i might need to pull it out Shock

My sisters dog eats the most weird things she constantly has to watch him he's eaten and pooped out a plastic peg, rubber doctors glove, a barbies hand, some wool and most worrying a blade from a disposable razor amongst other things.
So I wouldn't worry too much just keep a eye on him and make sure he's eating and drinking and is his normal self and he should pass it.

patterkiller · 29/04/2015 22:26

My dog, unbeknown to us, ate his poo bags. Dh had to pull them out when he was struggling. It was the most ironic moment of his life. Hope all is well, I'm sure it will pass.

TipseyKisses · 29/04/2015 22:28

Hope it passes through with no problems .

Our lab managed to pass a whole President butter wrapper a few weeks ago Blush i have no idea how he got it but it came out easy enough .

Eastpoint · 29/04/2015 22:31

The saddest part is that it won't exit filled with poo.

tabulahrasa · 29/04/2015 22:31

"Our lab managed to pass a whole President butter wrapper a few weeks ago i have no idea how he got it but it came out easy enough"

Well it would, it's basically greased, lol.

Hopefully the bag will pass through and come out all by itself.

Micah · 29/04/2015 22:36

Yourbubz- does your vet know raisins cause kidney failure in dogs?

You were very lucky if he came through it with no treatment.

Plastic bags will just pass.

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2015 13:28

Still no bag Hmm

WeAllHaveWings · 30/04/2015 15:28

Had to extract a very long piece of thread from a rope toy from our labs behind. Carry lots of paper towel or tissues for the next day or so when out walking, just in case it needs some help.........

BertieBotts · 30/04/2015 15:30

Grin Eastpoint, that would be the most efficient poo ever.

OttiliaVonBCup · 30/04/2015 15:31

Adding sanitising hand wipes to the paper towels mentioned above.
