So after a lot of research we have decided to get a whippet after our summer holiday. I'm feeling very excited and broody while we wait, so would love to hear about your whippets / sighthounds as it seems there are quite a few owners on here!

Ah, I'm a fair bit further north than you so I can't help with good off lead spots unfortunately.

I think there's a whippet racing club (straight racing on grass for fun, very different to organised greyhound racing) in Maltby which might be worth a look. I presume they'll do lure coursing as well. It's something I'd love to do with mine but there's no clubs near me.

My father and sister both own whippets littermates and they are lovely dogs, great with kids and love to cuddle and hog the sofa, food stealing is an issue my sister dog will even jump on counters or climb on things to reach food, he can clear a baby gate on a 6 inch step to get into the kitchen.
They will happy laze around all day and can take a short walk as long as they get some off lead time to stretch their legs.
There is nothing like watching two or more whippets race around chasing each other.
Just make sure that off lead is in an inclosed space as they can have bad recall and they are much faster than you even when puppys.
But they make excellent family pets and are extremely loving.

I have three whippets:

Scrumpy Jack a fawn lad, 8years
Poppy a balck and white female, 3 years
and Monty a brindle male, 13 weeks.

They make the most amazing pets, very clean, non smelly, dont need masses of exercise, sleep loads
