Recommendations for a good dog bed?

Hello all, I'm looking for a new dog bed for my lurcher.

He's getting quite arthritic and needs something with sides to keep out the drafts. The ones I've seen either have a properly padded floor or they have sides but not both. The vet has said he needs to be on a proper deep cushion.

Any recommendations? I would be great if it was also not £££

Most adult dog sleep 12 - 14 hours a day and a dog bed can save your furniture or you can adjust your dog's bed with your one your home furniture as shown in image.

Orvis beds are the ultimate, but very expensive.

Tuffies are also really good quality and with the fleece covers, lovely for elderly/arthritic dogs.

Alternatively when our girl was getting on, we already had xl plastic dog beds, so added a soft 'n snug insert over an oval memory foam cushion that we got from Pets at Home. She was lovely and snug in there.

I considered buying one of these for my two Lurchers, as they look really comfy and seem to get good reviews, but we didn't have a corner we could put one in, so ended up with a memory foam mattress and lots of fleece blankets instead.

Can also recommend Tufties, though it wasn't cheap, very sturdy sides and well made. Good supportive mattress.

I love Tuffies, the one I have had for four years looks identical to the one I have had for nine months, they are brilliant and so well made.

Worth considering with an older dog, that they are totally waterproof and can be cleansed with a jet washer! All covers etc machine washed, so very hygienic.

Another one with a tuffies. I was sceptical that the dog would sleep on what is basically cagoule material but he loves it. Five years on and still going strong

A Bia bed would be perfect but I don't know how easy they are to get hold of here (a Swedish friend bit me one from Sweden).

Im not sure if you get them in UK, but we have a Hound Sleeper which is a raised bed, and a cheaper one which is a Coolaroo brand.

They don't have sides on them and you could add a cushion on top if you wanted to. We bought the Hound Sleeper for our Lab who is also arthritic as cant get down on the floor and up again now very easily. Of course, having a year old pup too, we couldn't just get our Lab one without her having one too. Hence the cheaper Coolaroo one. But they both sleep in the same one anyway. They are a total weight of 90kg, so i don't know how long it will last.

Also as its raised, it is warmer so not on the tile floor where we would sleep on a cushion in winter.

And they are easy to clean which is a big thing for us as our Lab moults something terrible.

I was wondering if your ddog is arthritic will he be okay getting off and on the bed if it has sides like the one in the pic. It leaves a small space only to get in and out of. I know our Lab just sort of flops onto his from the long side of it. I think if there were sides, he might battle to get off and on the bed.

Another vote for Orvis (sorry!) my dog is lucky enough to have a secondhand one which was (and still is) in immaculate condition when we got it. It's the older version of this one. My dog loves it, the first night he slept on it he didn't move for 12 whole hours and he was that in love with the bed he even slept downstairs voluntarily that first night (unheard of!).

We had a Zippy bed which you can get on Ebay which was brilliant until my Lab destroyed it! I gave it to her when she was too young really. They are great - waterproof so you just wipe them down with a cloth - no taking the cover off, putting it into the washing machine, putting it back on the bed nonsense. Similar to the Tuffy beds but cheaper. Also have a wolfy bed but she is only allowed on that when she is not covered in mud after a walk, as it's nice fabric and a bit more of a faff to clean. But then again you have a lurcher not a grubby retriever so you can get a nice fabric one :)

Im looking at getting DD a big rectangular zippy bed looks like a human bed which she will love its on her birthday list in pink and cream hope they last

I've got a Tuffies nest which the younger dog enjoys snuggling in, but the older girl finds it quite hard getting in and out with the higher sides (she's not very long in the leg). I already had a big piece of memory foam with a useless cover, and the extremely helpful lady at Tuffies offered to adjust their fleecey bed cover to fit it - OAPDog loves it, and the cover's machine washable. Although obvs when I win the lottery, it'll be Orvis beds all round, including for me...

I tried out my dogs Orvis bed when we first got and after I'd washed it, I can fit in it if I curl up :o if it was longer it would be perfect for me, it's so bloody comfy!

My lurcher has a double duvet folded in half under the radiator and in his crate, and also the sofa.

When I had a greyhound, which she was almost as partial to as the sofa.

We were chucking out a memory foam mattress topper so I cut a piece out to fit the cushion that came with a dog bed she already had - memory foam dog bed for half the £ and lurcher loved it

recommend an Orvis bed, our lab loves it so much he will not get up in the morning! Seems to be resilient and easy to keep clean.
