Bitch coming to the end of her first season, when is it safe to take her out?

As per title, really. Her bits are only a little bit swollen now and she is much calmer, so was wondering when it will be safe to go back to dog walks and just normal life.

How many days has it been since the first day of bleeding?

dillite · 28/03/2015 09:02

It's been 17 days now, so 2,5 weeks.

A season lasts for about 28 days - so not quite yet.

Two of my bitches ovulate on day 16/17, so I'd still be very cautious.

Really? Damn it. So we are only half-way then. I just thought that since her bits have started reducing in size that this must be it then. The question still stands though, how long do I wait after day 28? Or she's back to being flat.

We used to do on lead walks early in the morning/late at night when ours was in season

dillite · 28/03/2015 16:54

Can't do early walks as I have no-one to leave DD with and usually there's the morning rush to get ready for school. Same with late walks. The walking itself isn't the issue, it's more of being able to go out for the day with the dog etc. You know, just being normal again.

I'd start going back to normal on about day 26. I would give her a bath beforehand though.

dillite · 28/03/2015 18:54

Oh she is having regular baths anyway- long, white non shedding fur. She reeks if not bathed regularly. Especially now with all that discharge drying up in her fur. Thanks for the advice!
