Looking to Get a Second Dog. But what Breed?????

We already have a Patterdale. He's 5 now and were looking to get a second dog but not a clue as to what breed?

Obviously it's got to be a dog that can keep up with the amount of walks he already has. Can't be a dog that our Pat seems to have issues with (boxer or Alsatian). I'd quite like a lurcher but walking the 2 people would think I'm a pro badger baiter Grin

Would another Pat be best? Or another terrier dog? Or something else. Finding this a tough one, getting our first dog was easy

What breeds do you like? I've got a Golden Retriever and a Black Lab. Both high energy dogs.

Whatever you fancy shrugs

If you want a lurcher then get a lurcher, I don't think it would look bad.

Terriers and lurchers work well together, like retrievers and spaniels, butter and bread or strawberries and cream.

I have a border terrier and a cocker spaniel, they are perfect together. However on one occasion the terrier did catch and kill something that the spaniel then retrieved for me which wasnt so nice. I want a whippet as well.

Patterdale rescue usually have some lovely dogs in so I would start there .

Get a smooth coated lurcher if the look of things worries you Grin

Are you looking for a puppy or an adult?

we were thinking of getting a second dog and liked the sound of a Bedlington terrier / whippet or lurcher cross, very good natured and a nice, lively family dog apparently:

Sorry only just got back to this thread. I'm not adverse to doing the whole puppy thing again, but really not fussy. Just want a dog younger than what we already have. So under 5. I quite fancy a lurcher though, border or parsons Russell.

I guess I was just wondering if there were breeds that were well matched for each other or made a better pairing really. But if it doesn't then great

Lovely squishy puppies looking for a home when they are grown

Aww you have a patterdale! Mine died recently, he was lovely, funny he also hated alsations! Miss him so much though. I reckon a border would be great with a patterdale, that's what I'd like in the future.

Thanks for all the replies :) unfortunately any puppies we can't get just now. Were doing the groundwork and research now for later this year. We are going away in September and while MIL has agreed to have our Pat I don't think it would be fair to also give her a second or possibly a dog that's very still much a pup. So were hoping to get a rescue or other after that :)
