Rescue Border Collie on-leash agression.

We rescued a lovely border collie three months ago (had collies before so have a good idea of the breed) although never had one who's such a nightmare on the leash. In all other ways he's an idyllic dog, so good with the kids and mega affectionate. On the leash though he shows fear towards other dogs by agression, he goes manic when faced with one, he even managed to catch my dh leg with his teeth the other day during an episode. We are gonna work on sorting this behaviour out but were wondering do you think we would be able to introduce another collie into the family home?. Theres a female who's 2 like him who needs homing and we were wondering if its poss they could get along if conditions were controlled on being introduced and wondering if having a friend would help him? am I kidding myself that its even possible?

Why put yourself or him through it.

You have a new dog with a behavioural problem that will take time to sort out. Sort this out first in a stress-free environment and then think about introducing another dog.

Having a friend will not help him when he is in this highly stressed state - it may make the other dog mega stressed out too. Please do not get the other dog until you have made progress with the first one

No we're not, its been decided. Gonna have to do some research on how's best to tackle it.a

Contact a apdt member if it is too big a problem for them get referred to a APBC member - this will need the correct behavioural plan but can be solved.

Basically work under threshold at all times
