Entertaining more than 1 dog when you are not at home?

Hi, I was wondering how those of you with more than 1 dog manage when you have to leave them for a couple of hours?

At the moment my dogs are left together but not left with kongs etc due to resource guarding. I have also removed the toys incase these became "treasure" worthy of guarding.

I can't help but feel this is really boring for both dogs and if I would be better separating them and leaving them both with fun things to occupy them for a couple of hours? DH thinks that separating them would be worse than having no toys.

Our lurcher is quite laid back and probably happy to snooze but our lab cross would probably benefit from something to do.

What are your thoughts/experiences?

We only have one atm, but when we had two I always made sure they were well exercised when I had to leave them.

My two play together, my dad lives next door and can hear them playing sometimes. I wouldn't leave toys with treats in, but mine seem to like things they can play rug of war with, rope type toys for example. I feel happier leaving two dogs than one.

I always make sure mine are tired out after a walk if I have to leave them. They sleep for 3 hrs or so as long as they're kept separate, if left together the GSD wakes lab up for a noisy play fight which scares the neighbours as it sounds like they're killing each other.

Mine are left with stuffed kongs, one on the upstairs landing, one in the hall, separated by a stair gate. Otherwise the miniature dachshund would fight the collie for his kong, he's a highly food motivated vicious little git!

Mine just snore tbh
