Dog care in summer

With summer approaching I was wondering what you do with your pooches when the you have to go out for a few hours and it's hot? Do you leave them Indoors or have a kennel/run outside or just leave a window open?

Our gate is locked so I give her free run of down stairs and the garden.

I also freeze her kong and leave cold water down, normally find her asleep on the stone floor in the kitchen.

Depends on the dog really - though I wouldn't leave a dog outside with no-one in.

Having the windows open stressed my dog because he can hear people outside, so I put a portable air conditioning unit near his bed if it's really hot.

Otherwise, (with a more mentally balanced dog, lol) I shut the blinds and open enough windows to create a breeze.

Usually leave the french doors open leading out to the garden open so they can come and go between the house and garden as they like. Fill their water up and put ice cubes in it and freeze kongs. Usually they're asleep in the shade on their beds

Left indoors with a cold bowl of water. It's much cooler inside the house than outside.

Left indoors out of the rain and wind .....this is a British summer we are talking about Smile

Mine are just indoors. Its never that hot in our house!

We both work from home so have the back door /patio door open during the day so they can go in and out as they please.
If we go out they are left in the house - I would never go out and leave the dogs in the garden.

They have a washing up bowl as a water bowl on the floor (boxers) which the cats also use.

If its really hot we get their paddling pool out or put the twisty spray/fountain thing on the hosepipe for them.

Oh GemmaTeller what fun for your boxers! If I let our boxer see that he would be so jealous :)

Our dog is either at doggy day care or with me if I have to go out. On days he is home I make sure I do any errands early before it gets warm and try to schedule any appointments for when he is at DDC. Our house is not suitable to leave him shut inside and there is too much talk of dogs being stolen for him to stay outside if we're not home.

My dogs have a floor fan each, placed in front of their beds. They love it. And I never walk them in hot weather without a cooling coat. They are fab. If you have carpet and there is no cool place to lie, you may also consider a cool mat.
