teaching a dog not to bark

help?

we have a 15mo Cavie, he's lovely, but he's developed this habit of barking whenever people arrive, and then again when they leave.

He does it with anyone that comes to the door, its so bad that we literally can't hear the people speak over the noise. its not aggression, he loves people, all he wants to do is lick them all over and be loved, but its getting ridiculous.

We've tried quite a few things, and are considering a dog trainer, but i wondered if anyone here could suggest anything first.

Think the best advice I read was to teach the dog to bark on command then don't give the command.

If you look on you tube under kikopup or treatpouch there are some good videos showing how to teach barking on demand and stopping barking.
