Coming to end of first season, when can we take her out?

As the title really... Dpup has been in season for almost three weeks - from first swelling. She's nearly back to normal, but not quite. Is it safe to take her out yet?

Best to wait until her vulva is back to normal, usually 4 weeks from the beginning of the bleeding and keep her on the lead at all times when out.

Oh my puppy has just started bleeding.. how are you meant to burn off their energy the next 4 weeks??

Oh god. Are you really not meant to take them out? Isn't it ok if the only boy dogs you walk with are denutted?? Or if you can walk somewhere where you're very unlikely to encounter another dog and keep her on a lead is that ok?

If you come into contact with an entire male he can bring her back into season.......I know it's a pain but I would walk her somewhere that you are unlikely to come across other dogs and also outside of prime dog walking time if possible.

I have an entire male, the thing that you may not realise is that bitches in season will seek him out, I have had a spaniel Persue us, back up to him and move her tail aside......

So you do need to keep them on lead and I would avoid other dogs, times when people are walking there dogs. Even a neutered male can go crazy over a bitch in season.

I'm dreading it. I've got an Non neutered male dog, he's had an implant which is meant to have the same temporary effect.

It's been a bit of a pain, but nowhere near as bad as I thought. It's been hard to wear her out though, but luckily she's quite chilled out. Lots of running round the garden and hiding her favourite treats.

Viva - a breeder I know used the implant with her retired male dog - he barely batted an eyelid when the bitches in the house came into season.

Viva, just so you know a neutered dog can mate and tie with a bitch, so please be careful! If they are not supported/held still kept calm once tied they can do each other serious injury.

Personally, I don't think people should walk in season bitches, certainly not in dog populated areas, parks, woods etc or off the lead. On lead road walks if you must, when she is not "red hot" which is usually, but certainly not always, between days 10-16 ish.

Dogs can smell in season bitches a long way off and no matter how good your recall is instinct can take over. At best this can result in b*ggering up a dogs recall training and leading him to be a bit of sex pest with other bitches and at worst a nasty accident.

I have an entire bitch so I know its a bore. She is currently on day 18 of her season so I am very much aware that it does drag!

Off topic, but can anyone explain why my spayed bitch is so alluring to the male dogs around here (mainly de-nutted, but at least one was entire when he first started pursuing ddog1)?

She has absolutely no idea what they are after, but they all seem to want to bonk her!
