How to stop 8 week adopted year old jackchi terrorising elderly, unwell, visiting mother?

We adopted an 11 month old chihuahua cross in December. She's done really well and is very loving in the house, she has her moments in the park but loves our children and resident Labrador. I've had to pick my mum up yesterday though and bring her home as she's really quite unwell with labyrinthitis. It's stressfull all round as we haven't been able to introduce them gently as mum is upstairs, hacking away with a cough and feeling vulnerable with bad balance. She came downstairs today but the chi-cross is making a fuss and mum is not up to coping. We had a dog behaviouralist out when we first adopted, in December, but the coaxing with cheese is not a viable option with an unwell, elderly mother. Please could anyone offer any advice?

Just separate dog from your poorly Mum.

Make sure the dog gets exercise etc and then put in another room if Mum is downstairs. If the dog is quiet then she can come into the room but on a lead.

It will be a great training opportunity for your dog to learn to relax and settle.

I hope your Mum feels better soon Flowers

Thank you, mutty that is very good advice. It's just that our house is not very big and I was hoping for a quick (magic?!?) way to stop the barking chaos which starts up every time mum coughs!
