What medication is your arthritic hound on?

Our lurcher is 13 she's just been prescribed metacam which she's been on since Wednesday. I can't really see much of a difference. She still seems to be in pain.

Are there any other drugs available?

My mums JRT is on Rimadyl for his arthritis and it does seem to work well .

cathpip · 08/02/2015 19:31

Rimadyl here too

Yes there are loads of alternatives. I would expect to see an improvement by now if you're going to, so definitely see your vet again and discuss the next move.

TheHappinessTrap · 08/02/2015 20:10

I didn't know there were alternatives! We've been on yumove. Ate these alternatives better?

BagelwithButter · 08/02/2015 20:19

You might want to look at the [[https://www.facebook.com/groups/41 5313751866609/ Turmeric User Group on Facebook (you have to join it). Many, many people have had good results using a turmeric-based mixture which eases pain in people and animals.

It sounds a bit far-fetched but it really seems to work Grin

Sorry Turmeric User Group

badoomtish · 08/02/2015 20:46

Yumove is a nutritional supplement. Evidence to support these supplements' efficacy is pretty variable but many people find them useful.
If your dog is still stiff, slow to get going or sore then they probably need a prescription drug, usually one of the NSAID family such as Metacam :)

Thanks bad, will get on it! And thanks bagel, but I'm not on fb.

Protect-a-joint. Worked wonders with our old girl.
