Friends whippet has tripped and broken her neck !!!

Poor dog. A friends collie broke its back playing with a ball. Leapt up and crashed down on its back. Had to be pts.

That is heart breaking. Poor dogs.

Oh no, that's awful. I didn't realise it could happen so easily.
I'm going to be paranoid now with dpup - she's always charging around, jumping and chasing her ball or frisbee.

I think major orthopaedic-type injuries are probably more common in sighthounds than in many other breeds. They just run so fast and cover so much ground that if they do trip or hit something the force/momentum is enormous. I remember my younger lad hitting my older one full force, flying up in the air, over the other dog's back, somersaulting and coming down on his side - I was sure he must have injured his back, but luckily - and it was pure luck - he was fine. Scared the life out of me though. In his relatively short life he's had so many stitches and staples etc for wounds sustained while running that I'm starting to lose count.

Completely unpredictable and one of those million to one accidents.

Pointies have such beautiful long limbs and necks, like thoroughbred racehorses, they are vunerable .
