My DF is poorly & for 4 days been unable to look after his dog. I've been to feed her but he doesn't want me to take her out.

I'm not a pet person but I feel sorry for her, I'm here now, what can I do to cheer her up?

Hide some treats in a cardboard box and let her find them, play indoor fetch with a soft ball, play tuggy with her - does she have a kong you can stuff with yummy food which will keep her occupied for ages?

Assume she's at least getting out to the garden/toilet?
Can she sit with your DF in his room so she's not confined alone? Get her a long wobbler and feed her dry food or treats in this. Freeze bits of ham or treats in an ice block to keep her occupied

Sorry to hear your DF is poorly.

Has he said why he's not happy for you to take out the dog? Is the dog reactive? A short walk on lead round the neighbourhood would be very beneficial for them.

If the illness is going to last any longer, then some sort of alternative action would be appropriate. He could call a professional dog walker, if he's not happy with you doing it, or there is a wonderful charity called the Cinnamon Trust which arranges for volunteers to walk the dogs of people who are elderly or very sick.

Hope he is better soon.

Thanks everyone. She's a choc lab/pointer so she's pretty big, he's worried that she'll pull me over (at 14 stone I don't think so) or something would happen to her. He says he doesn't want the worry while he's ill.

I ended up reading with her head on my knee (her choice of position) and she fell asleep. She's super cute, we bonded. I think she just likes being with someone.

If it goes on any longer my brother will take her to the field & just not tell him.
