Best Puppy Training Guide?

We are possibly getting a puppy this spring.

I trained my old dog myself (nothing fancy, just housebroken, would come when called, sit etc) but honestly did it in a rather haphazard fashion. (Was a decade ago when I was in my early twenties and living the free and easy party lifestyle Wink)

I'd like to do a better, more thorough job this time especially as we are most likely getting a beagle, which I've heard can be a bit difficult. (My old boy was a Golden Retriever/German Shepherd mix.)

Does anyone have the name of a good book that worked for them?

A good friend bought me Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey, it seems pretty sensible and everything I've tried from it has worked so far. My friends dog is beautifully trained so I can see the long term value too.

I have the Gwen Bailey too - I am a total novice and am finding it very useful and it does seem to work.

Our puppy trainer recommended Perfect a Puppy too. We have found it very useful.

I also found Kikopup (I think that is the name) on YouTube incredibly helpful as sometimes a video is easier than just written instructions.

Thank you so much! I'll Amazon the book right now :)

I thing every puppy owner should have a copy of Life Skills for Puppies.

Very easy to read and use and essential for learning all about the importance of things like socialisation and building a relationship with your pup.
