Greyhound - thirst and weight loss?

Was looking for the pointy hounds thread as maybe the best place to ask - but being thick could not see it. I think I know the answer but I'm scared because I am absolutely broke and don't know what I'm going to do :-( my 8.5 yo greyhound is losing weight at a rate of knotts. He is also incredibly thirsty and does not seem to want to eat much. Loves his treats but generally seems to be starving himself as he only wants my food. Split with H summer and he's gone through phases of licking and irritating his skin tho def not fleas as have treated. I think he's depressed, and misses H. He is with me all day everyday, at home and work. I love him. I can't tell what's stress and what's physical. Obvs he has to go the vet. Can anyone give me any pointers? TIA.

Diabetes is the first thought I had. This is an emergency though so please do get to the vet ASAP.

He definitely needs checking out for diabetes, as well as a full health check. If he's losing weight at that rate and refusing to eat, you need to get him seen sooner rather than later.

You need to rule out anything physical, then if the vet doesn't find anything, consider the possibility of it being something psychological.
