How much excercise for a Cavapoo

Who is 8 months old. In total in a day he is walked or let off the lead for around 2 hours in a day. He loves it but DH thinks I'm walking him too much? Any advice?

Hi. I have 3 yr old cavapoo. She will walk for miles or she will quite happily have a short walk and lots of cuddles at home instead. Mine gets quite tired after a 90 minute walk. Is he acting tired by the end of the walk?

Five minutes a month so 40 minutes on lead. Off lead is less of an issue if they have the sense to stop when tired but mine never have so I limited off lead to 10 minutes a day.

I've never had a Cavapoo.

That 5 minutes per month has been discredited, it's nonsense for most pups. Small and medium breeds can usually go as far as you want to take them but you don't have to be out 2 hours a day. Most dogs get a lot less.

It's not written in stone. It's a rough guide to encourage building up exercise gradually and not overdoing it when they're little. If they need 2 hours at eight months how much will they need to tire them out when they're 14 months?

My cavapoo is 2. She gets about an hour off lead in the woods or on the beach every day but she would happily do more.. I sometimes walk her with friends who have larger dogs (leonburger, gsd) and this does tire her more quickly as the interaction with other dogs takes more energy. As they are small breed dogs I don't think overwalking is the issue it is with larger ones. I was far more careful with our newfoundland as their legs and hips are easily damaged.. Didn't even let her go on stairs. But she was never the world's keenest Walker. I spent hours in the middle of the woods trying to persuade her to stand up and come home. This is not a problem with a cavapoo!

I would say 2hrs is excessive. Some mental stimulation eg clicker training would be as tiring.

Has the five minute per month thing been discredited? I cannot keep up with these constantly changing guidelines. It's worse than feeding babies. Confused
