Puppy is 12 weeks, has only been out for two short walks out the front so far. He is a little staffy/shitzhu cross.

It's come to my attention that I'd imagined dogs just knew to walk by your side, but obviously not! It's not so much that he pulls, just that he's all over the place, crossing in front of me and getting wrapped around my legs. After five minutes he seems to calm down and trot by my side or just behind me.

I've been praising him and saying 'heel' when he's being good, but I'm not sure how soon or if this will take effect. I have read about giving treats but he's so tiny I can't reach to give them to him without stopping or him jumping up, which seems counter productive!

Any help would be much appreciated, I really don't know what I'm doing!

Oh, if it helps he has been doing well with obedience training, will sit, stat and lie down with treats etc.
