Need to change food...but to what?! And how to drop a feed?

I don't think I can do raw feeding - I just don't have a big enough freezer! The pup came to us on Eukanuba puppy food, and she doesn't really seem to be that keen on it - plus for the price, I keep being told I can feed something else better, with higher meat content.

I have been recommended Canagan, or this www.wolfit.co.uk/wolfitthepetshop/puppy.html which our local pet food make themselves and which seems to rate highly on the allaboutdogfood site, but there just seems to be SO much choice out there, and I am such a novice. (pup is a golden retriever). Does anyone have any helpful advice?

Also, she is now 11 weeks today, and I think she should be dropping a feed - she was on a 8,12,4,8 routine but doesn't really finish any bowls of food - which feed should I drop - I guess I should end up on a sort of 8 am and 5pm ish feed eventually, so do I drop the 8pm one first?

Re. raw feeding - you don't necessarily need a huge freezer. I could fit in about 10 days worth of food for 15kg dog in 1 drawer of small, under-counter freezer. A combination of 400g packs from Nature's Menu and bits from butcher. So, if space if your only concern, it's worth a try...

I get the best food I'm willing to pay for, that suits my dog and I can get hold of easily...because I'm badly organized and online ordering doesn't work for me, lol.

Everyone will recommend what they use tbh, so just go with one that suits you that's got decent ingredients.

There's no real should about a feeding schedule, I feed mine at 9am and 9pm, so keep the 8pm one if you want.

It's usually 12 weeks to move onto 3 feeds - I didn't exactly drop a feed, I just put the third in halfway through the two I was keeping...like having breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Thanks tabulahrasa - I know it's a bit of a how long is a piece of string type question really.....I will wait another week then, my neighbour who has a golden said 10 weeks but the breeder said 6 months so I wasn't sure...!

Interesting Lady Turmoil, thank you. Will re-evaluate my freezer space...

Usually the advice is about 12 weeks to move on to 3 meals and 6 months for 2 meals. I then stick at 2 meals because large breed dogs can be prone to bloat and smaller meals are supposed to be better. (current dog is a rottie and the last two were a similar size)

I'm pretty sure nothing dire would happen if you did it this week instead of next though.

Try Gentle dog food, it's supposed to be very close to raw, grain free and cold pressed.
