Puppy hiding before walks

19 week old pup gas started hiding when you get his coat or lead to go for a walk. When you manage to get them on him he sits absolutely still, stiller than I have ever seen. Once he is finally outside he seems happy to walk. Its happened 5 or 6 times in the last couple of weeks. Any advice?

One of my dogs does this, and we've never found out why. One dog is bounding around in joy when we get the leads, the other is hiding under the table, silent and still like you describe. We've had him since he was a puppy, and don't think he's ever been mistreated. We did discover his harness was chafing under his front legs, so got rid of that. He's still the same though. He does have a lead aggression problem (he's having training for it) so maybe the thought of going for a walk and seeing other dogs stresses him out. He seems happy when we get out though. Hope you solve it Smile

Yes first thing to check out is whether anything is uncomfortable. If he's happy once you open the door and set off then it's likely to be that he's uncomfortable in some way with the getting ready process.
