Toilet training gone out of the window

I am at my wits end.

Awesome shih tzu pup fully house trained from 2/3 months on, no accidents. Would gently bark at patio door for a wee, and make a straining sound at patio door for a poo. Perfect.

Got spayed last month, recovered brilliantly, no issues.

Last week went to stay at her pet sitters (who don't have garden) for a week, when we went away. Came back a different dog.

Now she wees on the carpet, poos in the house, has not barked at door even once to ask to go out. All my hard hard hard work seems tohave been wasted.

Do I really need to start again, crate and all? Can't bear the thought. It was such hard work and she was so very well trained.

In tears :(

If the pets sitters don't have a garden how did she go to the toilet?

Focusfocus · 14/01/2015 05:19

They have a courtyard and she got loads of walks with the two other house dogs in the adjacent park. Apparently she weed and pooed indoors after back from a walk the entire time she was there,

FYI she is five months old.

She was remarkably perfectly toilet trained. Would go to door and gently bark and wait till we let her out. A cleaner pup there never was.

Now it's shit and piss wherever she wants.

You do need to go back to the basics with crate and taking out often and praising for Weeing outsde etc, but shouldn't take as long to retrain. Even adults that spent years messing in crates due to bad homes can usually be retrained In a week or less. Plus being away etc will have unsettled pup so not son musical for regression. I'd say consider a different dog sitter next time though,

Not so unusual not Musical, stoopid autocorrect

Adara is right, if you go back to basics she'll get it back very quickly.
Maybe she's not used to the routine at the sitters, she may do better with a sitter that has a garden and she has the same routine as she does at home.

Thanks everyone, it's been loads better today. She's back into her familiarity with our house and garden, have taken her out frequently, praised lavishly and she has started doing wees and poops in her usual spots in the garden! Result :)

Won't be changing her sitter though, she pops in here to take her out etc, and going to hers is only if be go away which isn't happening for a while now. The sitter is a treasure we are sticking with :)

Thanks for all the reassurance!
