Dry, flakey skin, what can I use?

I have a five year old Labradoodle who has suffered on and off with dry, flakey skin. We have had three or four courses of antibiotics from the vet and a special shampoo but nothing has really worked. Its a lot worse in the winter.

We already give her glucosamine supplements as she has hip dysplasia and I was hoping someone could recommend a good supplement to help with her skin, or a shampoo.

How about fish oil? We give our dogs sardines in sunflower oil (Lidl is cheapest) and its supposed to really help with skin and hair - ours are certainly glossy and nice skin

Try moving to a raw food diet.

Fish oils supposed to be good for dry skin. Fish 4 dogs do a salmon oil that my lot love

Also coconut oil which you can add to food and to skin.

I didn't think of sardines in oil, that's a great idea. Im currently researching raw food diet, it seems quite messy and as we are already quite a busy family Im not sure it would suit us but if nothing else works I will give it a try.

Thanks for the advice.

Waitrose does a can of sardines in olive oil for around 65p - our pup loves it. How much is the aldi version?

CMOTDibbler · 13/01/2015 11:37

The lidl sardines are around 30p a tin
