All my training has been trashed!

I'm ill, chest infection, so I can do very little with Dpup. Dh and the kids have been seeing after him, the bad habits he's learning is driving me crazy...I ask them not to do things with him but they forget. He is no longer walking on lead without pulling. He's become quite destructive around the house with lack of attention, he has no interest in me because I am no longer the source of amusement.
In 7 days my pup has turned into a bloody nightmare, and every time I move to do something with him, I feel with passing out.

Months of training down the toilet - God I feel so frustrated.

Oh noooooooo!!!! You poor thing! It's really frustrating when this kind of thing happens, but firstly you must attend to yourself, and although it's really annoying, try to let the other stuff go hang. Once you are better, things will pick up quickly. I think sometimes you have to let it go, as long as the pup is fed and watered, going out when he needs to, not tearing the house to shreds.... It could be worse. When I came out of hospital after a month there was a lot to sort out in the house, not least with the dogs. Please look after yourself!

When I was in hospital for four days to have DD3, my husband was left with our other three children and two dogs on his own. I came home to a pair of very unruly Shih Tzu, who had become barky little hooligans despite all of my work with them. It took a couple more days before I was up to it, but once I got them back into their routine, and reminded them who was in charge around here, they were back on track. It isn't so much that they forget what they have learned, it is that they have figured out that some people are pushovers or won't make them behave, and many dogs are quick to exploit that!

You'll be surprised how quickly he'll settle down once you're back in the driving seat. I always say my entire house descends into unruly chaos whenever I'm off my feet, but both the dcs and dogs are quick to realise which side their bread is buttered when I'm back in control.

Your pup won't have forgotten everything, he's just taking advantage of his current freedom. As long as you are firm, fair and consistent when you're back on form he'll be back to normal in no time.

Thanks that makes me feel a bit more relaxed. Dh is doing his best but he's finding domestic demands a bit of a struggle, especially with the added responsibility of walking Dpup twice a day. My frustration helps no one.
