Hi, we are looking to get a puppy in new year. My husband works from home and I am home weekends. We would like a breed that can go training with my husband (up to 8 miles) small and short haired. Any thoughts ?

Small and short haired?

I would choose a dog on character/personality.

Anyway, small and short haired I guess you'd be looking at terriers.

I agree character but an idea of size etc needs to be thought about too. !

When you say training, do you mean running? I don't think most small dogs are very keen on running alongside you on the lead for any distance.

I have lurchers, which are not small, but don't shed much, slobber, or smell. They are totally happy to snore most of the day while I'm working (from home), but ddog - dpuppy is too young yet - loves to go running with me, and I go up to 15km with him. Not that he can't go further, as he'll run 10 miles alongside the bikes off lead when we are on trails, but he starts to get bored of just running alongside me.

Any healthy adult dog should be able to do 8 miles...

What do you mean by small? What do you like?
