Any other ides for this? When I google the suggestions are either worms or anal sac issues. Not only has vet ruled these out. Her vagina has also been checked for infection and is clear. Any other ideas? Could it simply be habit? It's not a daily thing, I see it maybe weekly/ bimonthly and spend lots of time with her.

Sorry to hear that, Our pup did something similar and it turned out to be worms. But if your vet ruled that out I don't know. Sorry.
I hope you manage to get to the bottom of it and she's okay.

atonofwashing · 18/12/2014 19:50

We had that too. Well ok, not we, the dog (!).
Anyway we were told worms or anal sac issues.
Did vet clean out anal sac ?
(sorry, I know it's tea time!)

sofarris boom boom! Grin

Lonecatwithkitten · 18/12/2014 21:33

Allergic skin disease can also be a cause does your dog lick or nibble at their feet too?

Expedititition · 18/12/2014 21:41

My dog has this from time to time. I give her some bran flakes in her food twice a day and it seems to go away after a few days.

TheHappinessTrap · 18/12/2014 22:40

We were advised to give her bran but she eats around it. She does a bit of scratching licking biting certain areas. Not constantly but daily. .. I wonder if it could be allergies. Did your vet work that out cat?

Oh, and her anal sac needed emptying one but been back 2 more times and it isn't that.

We call this butt-surfing Grin.

She's a springer and there's nothing obvious going on with her, either. She just seems to be a very itchy dog.

VeryStressedMum · 19/12/2014 13:55

My lab does this, it's not worms and her anal glands have been checked it's not that either. she does have allergies so it might be that but it drives me mad when she does along the rug luckily it can go in the machine Smile

TheHappinessTrap · 19/12/2014 18:00

Ok, I'm going to work on the notion it might allergies. Off to Dr Google! Thanks guys!

my dog does this, has also had glands and fanjo checked out. Poos are normal. I think she just gets really itchy in that area , i can give her a scratch on her bum , all i steer clear of her actual bumhole Grin but when i do she goes into a trance !

trashcanjunkie · 20/12/2014 15:46

We call it scooty bum at our house Grin the staffie is old and has a kidney problem which can make him have itchy bits. Dp wipes his bum with pet wipes. We have a chi puppy who will very occasionally do it if she has a flag nut. Bleaurgh.

trashcanjunkie · 20/12/2014 15:47

Tag nut not flag nut!

higgle · 21/12/2014 19:50

Does the dog eat grass, my staffie does and is inclined to "scoot" if we don't notice a bit of grass hanging out. When you get a dog you have to put up with some pretty disgustig stuff from time to time!

wheresthelight · 21/12/2014 23:32

My patterdale does this when she has mud or matted fur around her back end, sometimes she just has an itch I think.
