Mass cell tumour advice

So my dear little baby has a mass cell tumour on her hind leg. She had a test last week to see what a lump was & we got the results yesterday.
Our vet has recommended surgery, which we have her booked in for this week.
Vet also said she will need xrays & scans to see if it's spread.
Will they do the scans etc first then decide if surgery will or will not help?
I'm so sad, I can't even think of loosing her.
She's 13, still plays like a pup, eats, drinks, enjoys short walks.
Has anyone been through this with their senior dog?

My young dog (4) has just had one removed from his neck with a very good outcome. My understanding of it is there are grades of severity in terms of it spreading (which you won't know until it is removed) then also being able to get all the edges to prevent it returning.

Fingers crossed that it goes well for her and you, it's so horrible when they are ill.

Thanks for your reply.
That's good to know. Yes I've been reading on Google about the different grades etc.
yes it's horrible when they are ill.
Glad your dog has come out the other side.

Any news crispy, has she had the surgery yet? Thinking of you Flowers

Sorry for the very delayed reply.
Yes she had surgery a week ago today. It went well, they removed all of both tumours.
She was in so much pain & literally cried all fri eve, Saturday day & night & most of Sunday, all 3 of us didn't get any sleep! She's back to her normal self though this week, thank goodness.
We are just waiting on the rest results to see what grade we are dealing with.
