Have to choose between two puppies...

They are Tibetan terriers. Both very similar colouring, both boys, both gorgeous and playful, one slightly more timid than the other.
Which one to choose?

Eric was more timid than his brother Charlie. We chose Eric because Charlie barked constantly and I felt that it would drive me mad if it continued at home. Eric is definitely not timid now, he's a thinker though, he plans his mischief definitely and so is very successful at it.For me I'd have gone with the more timid but the leg issue would put me off.

I think good breeder can have puppies left - but there is normally a reason......Very large litter, or a litter that is mostly girls, where within the breed most people want boys.

The back leg thing would REALLY bother me...yes they do develop at different rates, but by ten weeks a medium size breed like that should be moving about all the same. I would be worried it could have been injured, which can happen, with there very immature joints, but can be very expensive to manage through life.

There are two clubs within the breed that we have, in the club I don't belong too the club secretary, and KC assured breeder breeds from a female that has produced epileptic puppies......so just really do your research.

When we got dpup at 8 weeks old I thought his back legs looked a bit funny when he was toddling around, however no-one else mentioned anything so I put it down to immaturity (it was such a long time since I'd been around a really little puppy that I wasn't sure what to expect)

However a year later he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia on one side. Our vet and hydrotherapist have both suggested trauma when he was very little because of the way his X-rays look (one side is absolutely perfect, the other side quite badly affected). We were very careful not to overdo exercise when he was a puppy and he's never been overweight plus both his parents have fantastic hip scores and he's the only one of the litter that we know of who's been affected

If you have any doubts about one of the pups at all I would definitely take the other one

Thank you very much for all the posts on this thread. I am collecting pup tomorrow (puppy-no-name still but that's a whole other thread!)
We've chosen the slightly more confident of the two, the one who to me walks and runs quite normally.
Wish us luck please Smile. Very excited but also very realistic about the next few months.

Feeling a bit jeolousEnvy- love puppies
Please post some pictures.
Hope you're all really enjoying him-got a name?

mckenzie · 10/12/2014 22:13

Sorry, I've only just seen this. His name is Woody and he is adorable. I'm not going to mention any of the good things as I don't want to tempt fate Smile
I've not taken many photos - I'll try and get the children to take some this weekend.
He is a family member already that's for sure. Everybody who meets him loves him and the trainer came round for a 1-2-1 yesterday (because of Christmas the classes don't start until January 15) and she was really impressed with him. He didn't jump up at her, he allowed me to touch him all over quite happily, the builders were making a loud noise outside and although he perked up he didn't bark or cry or run away.
So far, I think we've hit the jackpot. And Woody seems quite chuffed with his new home too Grin
