Our 9 year old hasn't eaten his breakfast for the last 2 days - SOOO unlike him -but eaten a little tea. His stomach is making the most bizarre noises - can be heard over normal conversation - and, just now, he passed blood. we've a vet appointment after lunch, but any ideas? Really worried.

You are most definitely doing the right thing. Don't feed him any more of his usual food . Get him on to chicken and rice asap to give his tummy a break from other harder to digest foods.
Good luck ... Hopefully they will give him an anti inflammatory and antibiotics and it will settle down ;)

Views are changing about feeding dogs with stomach upsets and in general it is felt that feeding little and often of regular food gets the stomach normal the fastest.

Thank you for your replies. We're just leaving with a sad-looking boy.

I'll update later.

We're back. He's been given antibiotics - vet thinks he's eaten something horrible - and is on a restricted diet, lead walks and lots of TLC for the next few days.

Phew!
