help please - dog eaten sugar

My 5yo collie has eaten what I'm guessing is about 100g of sugar. It is entirely my fault and I'm very aware of how stupid I was to leave it within his reach.

I've Googled it and nobody says much about sugar, more about the dangers of sweeteners.

So, it must've been late last night. He's drunk lots more than normal through the night and has vomited twice this morning. He seems ok in himself just very shamefaced as he knows it's forbidden to get into shopping bags. I didn't realise I'd left the sugar in there, just tins for my mum

Can anyone help reassure me? My plan is just to observe today and take him to the vet if he doesn't get better so I suppose I'm asking if there's any need to rush him there this morning.

Can you ring the vet and ask what they think?

Whilst sugar is not good for dogs (as it isn't for us) it will not cause him harm - isn't implicated in any organ failure etc

Ok that's good news hmc so hopefully he's just feeling like he's overdone it rather than proper poorly.

ottilia I've only just moved here so not got a vet just yet. I'm hoping for a more relaxed intro than an 'OMG MY DOG HAS JUST EATEN SUGAR IS HE DYING???' scenario. I'd do it if needs be but I wasn't looking forward to it.

No particular problem with sugar other than it will probably cause a tummy upset. Starve or light diet today.
For anyone whose pet eats something unusual please phone the vet for advice ASAP, there are all sorts of things which are poisonous and you might not think they are, and very few antidotes, mostly we rely on making them sick (which has to be while material is still in their stomach, within the first couple of hours) or absorbents like activated charcoal. If it was out of hours phone the emergency service - they will give phone advice.
I know the OP didn't realise until this morning and I'm sure your collie will be absolutely fine.

I would do to because we have been with our vet for years and I'm comfortable ringing so that's why I suggested it.

I just went cold when I saw it. We've been through an awful lot together and I'd never forgive myself if I hurt him in any way. We've both suffered at the hands of my ex and we made a deal that no one was going to hurt us again (obv he totally knew what I was saying!).
