Adopting a puppy

I'm going to visit a litter of these little guys, hopefully tomorrow.

We've been discussing buying a dog for a while but decided to check some sites with pups that needed adopting instead and found these lovelies yesterday.
Dh called and the lady explained they were found outside at roughly 1-2 weeks old and they were dying. The rescue lady got them to the vet who put them on drips and managed to save 6 out of 8.
It's been that long since I had a dog, I'll no doubt have a million questions for you all :)

Is it a rottie? Or something tiny? It's hard to tell with puppy photos, lol

I am dying of envy. Beautiful pup.

We have no idea what they are. I'll look in a minute and see if I can find the photo's of her siblings, there's a few of them definitely Rottie like.

Mum wasn't on the scene when they were rescued. The rescue lady said she returned after making sure the pups were getting treatment and waited and waited, Later got someone else to wait too but mummy dog wasn't around and didn't return over the next few days.
It could, of course, be that some uncaring bastard has simply taken the pups away from mum dog and abandoned them alone because they didn't want, couldn't afford them :(

It looks rottieish, that's why I was asking, apart from just the colouring I mean. Mine looked very much like that when I brought him home.

It seems wrong, am I looking at a boy or a girl? Lol

The first pic is a girl and I'm not sure of the sex of those in the last post.

Oh it was just so I could stop calling her it...they definitely look like they've got at least some rottie in there, look at their huge paws, bless them.

Go for the fluffy one with the eyebrows, I like eyebrows, lol.

I believe girl Rotties are slightly less, um, toerags interesting as teenagers if that helps you at all in narrowing it down.

If they are Rotties of course, but they look a lot like them to me.

Sorry to rain on yr parade, but are you sure this is a reputable rescue, and not simply someone spinning a yarn? The reason I ask is that there are a lot of pups coming in from Central and Eastern Europe at the moment, often very much younger than they should be for being separated from their mums, brought in from puppy farms. These could be overflows from there. I would be make absolutely certain they've had their rabies shots and ask in detail about the early worming, socialisation and feeding.

The lady who has them is just an animal lover who folk call in her local area and beyond, when animals are in danger.
Apart from some fundraising that she does, she pays for their care herself. None of the rescues she has are for sale so certainly not a puppy farm in this situation. They've had their first shots and treatments and are back to the vet this AM for something else, possibly just a check up. We'll make sure any dog we get has the injections it needs, we have to as it will need a pet passport because we travel back to the UK sometimes.
If we decide to adopt one then the lady has made perfectly clear she will not simply allow us to just take it. She has already asked questions and will be coming to our home before handing a pup over.
They should be well socialised with both people and other animals, apparently she has a full house of cats and dogs at the moment as well as her family.

Tabulah - They do don't they. Dh actually wanted to buy a Rottie but we've been waiting and watching for a reputable breeder to have pups. There's only a few places here that do them, mostly in the mountain area's to the south and Dh's last Rottie was from there.

We probably will be getting a girl :)

My Belgian Shepherd x Border Collie looked just like that when she was a pup. She also had enormous paws - which she still had when she was 14 years old, having never grown into them. People were still asking me if she was a puppy when she was 10!

Just been trying to find a photo of her as an adult, but can't find any without the dcs in on this computer except this one. She's in the middle between my Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and Lurcherboy.

If you're in Eastern Europe I'd put money on there being some sort of regional sheepdog in the mix.

Should have said, she was just under 6 weeks old when that first photo was taken.

Yes they do look a little like your girl, same colours and similar shape face.

So after surviving the hell that is - driving through central fucking Warsaw, honestly EVERY hour is bloody rush hour.
We have decided to adopt the girl in the first photo :) She's a lovely little fluffy thing and not at all shy nor afraid of two over excited grown adults petting her.
The rescue lady is coming to see us at our home on Sunday to check us out and sign paperwork etc.

If she's half the dog our girl was you are going to have a fantastic time with her.

My girl was similar in confidence at a young age. At 5 weeks old when we visited for the first time, she marched into the room, straight up to me and climbed up my leg for me to pick her up, just a cute ball of fluff with enormous feet - and that was that, I was smitten and couldn't even consider any of the others in the litter.

Aw so cute. I love the little one in the third photo. But they're all gorgeous. I love puppies, I know they are very hard work but they're so special.

That's why I see rottie - mine is 7 weeks and 8 weeks in those pictures.

Aww Tabulah, she's so cute.

We're trying to think of names as we're not keeping the one currently used which is Pigi :) Dh thinks it's a shortened version of Pigulki which means - little tablets in Polish a bit like how we call kids and animals- little monkeys or buggers :)
I like Luna and Dh likes Mina, we're still thinking.

He's not cute now...he's a big lump now, lol.

I'm rubbish at names, he was very nearly just called puppy as it took us so long to agree on a name.

that is one cute puppy. I don't think pure rottie but definitely one huge hunk of love. If you or your dh have had rotties before you'll be fine. Ive had two and think as dogs go they are one of the most easy going laid back of breeds.

My PILs had a Rottie x Golden Retriever when I first met dh. She was the most fantastic dog, Rottie colouring/markings with that fabulous square Rottie stance, wide face, but long nose and a gorgeous long, thick, silky coat. Stunning and with a fantastic temperament to match. Wish I had a photo of her as a pup to show you.

We both have experience with Rotties - Dh had a pedigree boy who was lovely but a bit bonkers :) As did my gp's.
I had a X when I was growing up, more rottie than X though, she had the height, build and colouring - she was lovely, a huge bundle of affection. When she got too big to jump to knees she still wanted to give cuddles so would stand facing you on the sofa with a look in her eyes, the next thing you knew she'd have you trapped there by her paws with her head on your chest. Only and I mean ONLY when she decided it was a good enough cuddle, were you allowed to move :)
She died when I was 17, I've missed her ever since :(

Oh he's not puppy cute though and I'm pretty sure he cares not whether people know he's a boy, lol.

He rests his head on us a lot, I think it's a quite common rottie thing, leaning on you definitely is. I'm pretty sure they think they're lapdogs.

Lurchers lean and head-rest too. I love it, because it's such a gentle expression of their affection.

Pip's speciality is reversing up to you, then sitting on your lap. Thing is, he's taller than me when he does that and I can't see Mumsnet the TV when he's plonked himself down.

We're still waiting for the pup. :)
Lady was supposed to come on Sunday with her but the little fluffy lovely has been unwell with an upset tummy.
She's been back to the vet today and is much better (not pooping so much and eating well) but the rescue lady wants to make sure she's 100% so up to now, all being well she'll bring her on weds evening.
